Vanu is honored to share news that the company has received the 2018 Changing Africa Award from AppsAfrica.com.
Now in its fourth year, the AppsAfrica.com Awards celebrate the best of African mobile solutions and technology innovations. More than 300 applications from 39 countries across the continent were assessed by an independent panel of industry experts which included media, investors and technology leaders. Fourteen winners were announced at a celebration in Cape Town, South Africa on Saturday, Nov. 10, including Vanu.
The Changing Africa Award was designed to recognize companies “driving game changing initiatives across Africa for the masses.” Vanu, which is focused on technical innovation to enable cellular coverage in areas that cannot be covered profitably with existing technology, has deployed systems throughout Africa, including Ghana, Cameroon, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mauritania, and Rwanda. Connectivity, particularly in the rural regions of these countries, is essential to economic development and the best way to maximize prospects for individuals born in areas with little in the way of resources to close the digital divide.
To address the inherent connectivity economic and technology challenges facing Africa-based operators and consumers, Vanu has implemented a business model that combines small-cell network architecture, wholesale network operation and solar power. This approach ensures that existing mobile network operators can recognize revenue and effectively service communities in rural areas.
